My Very First Heart Walk Experience
This morning I did something special & dear to my heart. I participated in my very first local heart walk! This was such a special experience for me! If you don't know already, I was born with a congenital heart defect & I have 3 chambers to my heart instead of 4 like the normal human heart should have.
I opened up about the subject the night before my last Heart Cath procedure which you can click here to see my last heart cath journey!
The team I got to walk with was my former pediatric cardiology office which was an absolute honor to be on their team considering the fact they've been there for a huge portion of my heart journey!
The walk was 3 miles & if you are familiar with Corpus, I walked all the way from Whataburger Field to the Selena memorial downtown which is pretty far & the idea of it sounded INSANE but I was SOO READY TO TAKE ON THIS CHALLENGE! They gave us water every several blocks so we stayed hydrated!
I always like to keep myself active but the fact of walking that far (especially someone with my anatomy) sounded insane! Sometimes I'm out of breath after walking several blocks but NOT TODAY!
For being a "heart survivor" I got this hat that at the corner says, "survivor" & on the other side was a heart fan which we could say who we are walking in memory of & I gave that honor to my grandma & grandpa who both passed away of heart failure & always knew how special I was inside & out!
I'm so happy I got to experience this special moment with my camp buddy of 10 years Monique who also is a "heart survivor"! On the back of our shirts we put that we were walking for each other (I put her name on my shirt & she put my name on her shirt)! The heart community is truly a special one & I'm looking forward to doing this again next year!
