Hey guys! What a Grammys season it was! I have had so much fun doing Grammy themed posts all week long & to conclude my Grammy themed blog post week, I had to talk about the show itself! I am currently re-watching the show & I will tell y'all what my favorite moments were & what I thought about this year's winners!
Pre-Show Review
This year I actually had the chance to watch the pre-show which in the past 2 years I hadn't been able to because of work so I really got to see all of the categories & who won what award! I love the Grammys because it celebrates all types of music & I grew up in a house where all types of music was presented to me so I love watching the pre-show!
Pre-Show Awards Thoughts
I'm really only going to go through the nominees that I had thoughts on in my original nominees thoughts post!
First of, CONGRATS GAGA & A STAR IS BORN ON THEIR 2 WELL DESERVED GRAMMY WINS!
Also, MICHELLE OBAMA IS A GRAMMY WINNER YALL!! YESSSSS!
And of course, Beyoncé's Homecoming won Best Music Film which was very much well deserved!
I am SO HAPPY for King & Country won their Christian awards categories because they truly deserved it! If you are a Christian music lover, I HIGHLY recommend listening to them!
I wasn't overly familiar with a lot of the songs in the rap category this year but Nipsey & Tyler the Creator deserved their awards so I'm happy about that!
I am THRILLED about JoJo receiving her FIRST GRAMMY for her song with PJ Morton! JoJo has been through so much with the music industry & all of her hard work is finally getting the recognition it deserves so congratulations to JoJo!
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON POP VOCAL ALBUM!!! There were so many AMAZING artists & albums in the category & WE GAVE IT TO BILLIE EILISH??? Don't get me wrong, Billie is talented but I just don't think this album was her best! I prefer her old stuff but that's just my opinion!
Another huge shock for me was that Old Town Road won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance OVER THE JONAS BROTHERS??? In my original nominees thoughts post, I was campaigning for the Jonas Brothers to take the award based of how iconic the song is & how iconic their comeback was! I was so disappointed over that!
Now on to my main show thoughts....
LIZZO KILLED THAT PERFORMANCE!!!
Cuz I Love You is MY FAVORITE Lizzo song at the moment! I just think her vocals in that song were AMAZING! Also, SHOUTOUT TO ALL OF THE BALLET EXPOSURE THIS YEAR'S GRAMMYS HAD! I grew up dancing ballet so I very much appreciated it! Also, Lizzo playing the flute will NEVER GET OLD! Ugh, she's so amazing no wonder she won all of the Grammys she did!
Also I wanted to point out too that the way the Grammys honored Kobe Bryant was absolutely beautiful. My heart & prayers go out to his loved ones during this very difficult time.
THE JONAS BROTHERS PERFORMANCE MADE ME SO HAPPY!
The new song Five More Minutes IS SO FREAKING GOOD! I want the Spotify link for that song ASAP!! Also, What A Man Gotta Do live is AMAZING! It took me a while to get into the song but now I've heard it live I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! It makes me wanna go see the Jonas Brothers live again (patiently waiting to win the lottery so I can make a trip to Vegas to see them LOL)!
Best Pop Solo Performance Winner Thoughts
So many well deserved nominees in this category but I kid you not when they announced that Lizzo won I SCREAMED!! Lizzo deserves every award & I just love how much positivity she brings into her songs & I know she's worked so hard over the years to get to where she is today so with that being said, CONGRATS LIZZO!
Tyler the Creator getting the recognition he DESERVES!
Congrats to Tyler the Creator, from being the funniest person on Twitter to coming out with a legendary song like EARFQUAKE! CONGRATS TYLER!
Congrats to Dan + Shay on their Grammy win!
To be fair, it was the only song I knew in their category but I've loved Dan + Shay since 2015! Very much well deserved!
Camila Cabello really had me SOBBING
I never thought I would say this but Camila's performance had me SOBBING! Her song for her dad was beautiful & what made me sob even more was looking at her dad's reaction as he was sobbing as well! Wow, Camila you REALLY DID THAT WITH MY EMOTIONS! Also, her outfit was BEAUTIFUL!
Ellen DeGeneres got robbed just had to put that out there... ANYWAYS!
Ariana did THAT!!!
I am a huge Ariana Grande fan & I've have been since Victorious! Her singing Imagine for Mac was done so beautifully! Her singing Favorite Things before singing 7 Rings WHAT A FREAKING QUEEN GOD BLESS HER! Her sobbing at the end of her performance also sent me to tears cause this era was truly so iconic & special for her I AM SO PROUD OF HER!
Aerosmith & Run DMC
Honestly, that was such a fun performance to watch! Walk This Way is a CLASSIC!
Lil Nas X's Performance
I'm not a Old Town Road fan what so ever but it doesn't mean I don't respect him as a artist because I do! His performance was so creative showcasing every version of his song from BTS, Billy Ray, & EVEN MASON RAMSEY YALL!!! The yodeling Walmart legend himself! Also loved that Nas performed with him. Honestly that's iconic!
I LOVE YOU DEMI LOVATO
Her comeback was just as emotional as I thought it would be! She looked stunning & the lyrics of her new song absolutely brought me to tears! I've been a fan of Demi's since the Camp Rock days & my heart goes out to her because she's been through so much & I just want the best for her! I am looking forward to what this new era has in store for Demi!
The Nipsey Hussle tribute was done so beautifully as well! What a great way to pay tribute to him!
Rosalia is a QUEEN!
I love Rosalia & everything about her style! I was fangirling throughout her whole entire performance! I love her song Malamente so you best believe I was JAMMING! I discovered Rosalia on a few awards shows in the past & honestly she deserves so much love & even though she didn't win Best New Artist, I'm still happy she won in the Latin categories!
Alicia Keys yet again killed it as the host, I thought I had to point that out!
H.E.R. KILLED IT AGAIN AT THE GRAMMYS!
I loved this new song H.E.R. performed! I still am speechless from her performance of Hard Place last year (which got robbed for the major categories but I'll get into that in a second)! STOP SLEEPING ON H.E.R. YALL! She's truly so talented & amazing! I would love to see her live in concert someday!
Gary Clark Jr.'s performance was ON FIRE (literally)! I was digging it!
Misty Copeland is a QUEEN
I LOVED the representation that ballet had this year considering ballet consisted of a lot of my childhood! I absolutely fangirled when Misty Copeland came on!
Main Category Thoughts....
I'm not going to get to into this but Best New Artist, SOTY, AOTY, & ROTY all went to Billie Eilish which I personally think some of the other nomiees deserved it over her but that's just my personal opinion. Also, Billie's new songs aren't really my thing so of course I'm going to think that! Congrats Billie anyways, I know you worked hard for those awards! That's all I'm going to say!
See you next year Grammys when Harry Styles will take home the AOTY award for Fine Line!
